Following the Google's tradition of contradictory and confusing documentation, it's hard to find but here's the page:

I have completed my investigation. Here is my assessment:

Decision: No data fix needed — the model is already correctly marked as deprecated

The model gemini-2.0-flash is already marked status = "deprecated" in providers/google/models/gemini-2.0-flash.toml (line 13), which is models.dev's correct representation for a discontinued/shut-down model. The schema's status enum is limited to "alpha", "beta", "deprecated" — there is no "removed" or "shutdown" status, and even DigitalOcean's "end_of_life" lifecycle maps to "deprecated".

I verified the issue's underlying claim against multiple authoritative first-party Google sources:

• Gemini API model page (ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/models/gemini-2.0-flash): "Gemini 2.0 Flash is deprecated and has been shut down June 1, 2026." All three versions (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.0-flash-001, gemini-2.0-flash-exp) are listed as "Shut down".
• Gemini API changelog (Feb 18, 2026): Deprecation announcement that gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.0-flash-001, gemini-2.0-flash-lite, and gemini-2.0-flash-lite-001 would be shut down June 1, 2026.
• Vertex AI / Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform docs (the URL in the issue): "As of June 1, 2026, gemini-2.0-flash-001 and gemini-2.0-flash-lite-001 are discontinued and are no longer available."

The reason the file still exists (rather than being fully deleted like the older gemini-1.5-* models, which are completely gone from the repo) is that Google is a synced provider. The sync module (packages/core/src/sync/providers/google.ts) automatically removes provider TOMLs for models no longer returned by the Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models), and preserves existing.status for models still in the API. The file's persistence over a month past the shutdown date indicates the model is still listed in the API (shut down for generation but returned for error handling), so the sync correctly retains it as "deprecated". When Google drops it from the API listing entirely, the sync will delete the TOML automatically on the next hourly run.

No manual data fix is appropriate here — the catalog already correctly reflects the model's retired status, and the automated sync owns the deletion lifecycle for this provider.
