[RFE] rebase routines

libgit2 supports rebasing, but pygit2 doesn't expose it. It would be very useful if it could.

Also, how would one go about exposing those methods to pygit2? I didn't find anything that could help me help you on implementing them

As for tips, look for inspiration in other pygit2 features, maybe pygit2/blame.py

To see how this would need to look like, I created an example for libgit2:
libgit2/libgit2#7150

It looks like Edward is entirely occupied by Vanta. Do you know what the situation with libgit2 is, @jdavid? Edward announced that there won't be anymore libgit2 v1.9.x releases and future releases will be what's now in main, i.e. with some backwards incompatibility. pygit2 currently doesn't build cleanly with that due to the SHA256-related changes.

Didn't see that annoucement. So the next release will be 2.0 but nobody is really working on it.

This was part of the release notes for libgit2 v1.9.0 last December where Edward said:

This is expected to be the final release in the libgit2 v1.x lineage. libgit2 v2.0 is expected to be the next version, with support for SHA256 moving to "supported" status (out of "experimental" status). This means that v2.0 will have API and ABI changes to support SHA256, as well as other breaking changes.
